Travel, Teach, Live in Japan

Must-See Sights When Visiting Japan

Japan is a beautiful country filled with great people, interesting sights, and plenty of things to see and do. If you're planning a trip to Japan, it's worth the time and effort to make a list of the things you definitely want to see and do while you're there. By planning ahead, you'll have a much better chance of making the best use of your time, so that you're able to see and do everything you've always dreamed of. Although your "must-see" list should consist of the things that are most important to you, here are some suggestions to consider.

Nagoya Castle

Nagoya Castle is definitely a man-made attraction, but it can't really be considered an intentional "tourist attraction." This beautiful castle is considered to be the hallmark of the city. It was originally built in 1612. However, due to the fact that it was destroyed during World War II, there was major reconstruction performed in 1959. Today it houses a museum filled with fascinating artifacts. You'll also enjoy the gardens that surround the castle.

Peace Park and Memorial Museum

It's hard to imagine traveling to Japan without taking the time to visit Hiroshima. While you're there, you'll want to visit Peace Park and the Memorial Museum. There are a total of 67 monuments in the park, including the Peace Bell and the Children's Peace Monument.

Visiting the Memorial Museum can be a sobering experience, but one that you should not miss. You'll find many disturbing sites and images within the museum, but it offers an important lesson in history.

Snow Monkey Park

If you're planning to travel to Japan during the winter months, it can be a lot of fun to see the snow monkeys in their habitat. These wild monkeys can be seen soaking in the natural hot waters found in the area, which is undoubtedly a welcome respite from the cold weather. It will require a hike of approximately 1.6 km in order to reach the point where you can view the monkeys, but it's definitely worth the time and effort.

Nara Park

If you enjoy nature and wildlife, Nara Park is an attraction that you should not miss. There you'll be able to see and feed approximately 1,000 deer, which roam the area. You'll be able to buy special rice crackers to feed the deer, which are considered to be a national treasure. But be prephttp://www.metal-wall-art.com/horse-metal-wall-art.htmlared… the deer always seem to be hungry and they pick up quickly on those who have rice crackers. Although the park itself is rather plain and ordinary, the experience of having deer roaming freely around you is one that you'll never forget.

Nagoya Aquarium

Although the Aquarium in Nagoya is definitely a man-made tourist attraction, it's one that is definitely worth a visit. As one of the largest and newest of Japan's aquariums, it offers plenty to see and do. You'll be able to view a penguin exhibit as well as a wonderful dolphin performance. The museum also features a wide array of multimedia displays and plenty of information on aquatic life.
