I am a permanent resident of the US and this year, my class is taking a trip to Japan. I am currently in my senior year of HS and I would really like to go. But, seeing how I am not a US citizen yet, i cannot get a passport, therefore I would need a visa.

Now my questions are: How do I get a tourist Visa (i am only planning on being there for about 3 weeks)? How long does it take to get one (I am going in June, so that's about 2 months)? And, what other documents do I need?

Please I really need help on this. This is my last chance to go to Japan and I really want to go.

You can use your native passport, you don't need a US passport. As long as your home country is on good terms with Japan, you can travel on a standard tourist visa. You do not need to apply or anything like that for a tourist visa.

The details will vary depending upon what country you are technically a national of, but you will have to have some kind of passport to get a tourist visa. If you do not have one through your native country you will have to apply for one through your embassy. After you have your passport however, all you have to do is go to Japan. They will issue you a three month tourist visa there at the airport after you arrive, but again YOU HAVE TO HAVE A PASSPORT or the airport (in the U.S.) will not even let you enter the departure lobby.

Also, you will need a guarantor because you are a student, I think your school can help you or the school trip organizer, if you are planning to go with them in a group, this would be more easy, it shows you belong to the school tour and your nationality wouldn't be a big concern. Even you travel alone, sponsor is needed. Contact your nearest Japan Embassy in your area.
