Jindo Sea-parting Festival - Jindo-gun, Jeollanam-do will host its 33rd Jindo Sea-parting Festival for three days from March 30th to April 1st. The festival venue is the 1.7 mile-long, 43-65 yard-wide path that appears when the sea ‘miraculously' parts due to extreme tidal differences. The event is one of the ‘Best Festivals' selected by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. In 2009 alone, as many as 680,000 people, including 52,000 international visitors, attended the festival.

This year's expanded schedule of events will include more sea-related programs including Nongak (farmers' music) performed on deck, a boat parade, and the ‘Miracle Expedition Team'. Plus, there will be a wider range of participatory side-events such as the Jindo dog show and a program titled ‘Learning Yehang Jindo' where participants can learn Jindo Arirang, calligraphy, and traditional painting. There will also be an auction where shoppers can buy specialty products of Jindo.

Moreover, the festival will host an exciting array of traditional performances such as Ganggangsulae, Jindo Manga, and Jindo Ssitgimgut, which is unique and exclusive to the region. This year there will even be a firework show, ‘Miracle Fantasia Multimedia Show,' as a grand finale to be held at the time when the sea route is about to close. Festival coordinators have planned a schedule full of wonderful and exciting things to see, do, and experience this festival season.

Jeju Jeongwol Daeboreum Fire Festival - Every year, on the 15th day of the first lunar month, many people visit Jeju-do Island to take part in the Jeju Jeongwol Daeboreum Fire festival, which follows the ancient Korean tradition in celebrating the first full moon of the Lunar New Year; this year the festival will start on February 17 and last through the 19th. The magnificent sights of the Jeju Fire festival and the many traditional ceremonies attract people from all over the world. The festival has been attended by as many as 300,000 people.

The festival is full of ancient symbolic rituals that wish for health and happiness in the coming year and that ward off misfortune. These include writing wishes and attaching them to haystacks, called 'Moon Houses,' which are then set alight.

Most visitors never forget the sight of Jeju's volcanic cones ringed in flames, as the fields are set on fire. Kite flying and horseback martial arts displays are also highlights of the festival's packed program.

Discover Jeju's remarkable landscape, delicious local specialties, and immerse yourself in Korea's cultural traditions. The Jeongwol Daeboreum Fire Festival is a ceremony to pray for health and a good harvest in the coming year. The festival offers a number of hands-on events where visitors can participate in folk games and traditions, and you can also enjoy the sights of Jeju Island's stunning natural environment.
