Travel, Teach, Live in Korea

Perhaps learn about the culture and history first
In Response To: Cosidering to teach English in Korea? (answers.yahoo.com)

Hey, I suggest that first of all, you spend some time learning about the cultures and history of East and Southeast Asia. This region has been exploited terribly by imperialist superior minded caucasians. Just because you are a 'white man' (that is a joke in itself, describing yourself in this simplistic fashion) does not mean that Asian women will fall at your feet. I am of caucasian appearance and don't expect any woman to fall at my feet because I am 'white'. In fact I could describe many personal physical attributes, which I don't like. We all have qualities good and bad. I don't reside in Korea (Vietnam actually) but have met Koreans here and in Australia. If your friends had Korean women falling at their feet, perhaps it was in local bars where there are women who possess alterior motives, who come from poor uneducated backgrounds and have unfortunately been convinced to chase foreigners as a chance to escape the poverty cycle. That's the cold hard reality of Asia. I hear stories of so many foreigners being completely scammed. Basically, if it seems to good to be true it probably is. So, if a drop dead gorgeous woman suddenly goes for you at a bar and then is sleeping with you in less than a week/2 weeks etc then you may be the next expat victim. Do not bring in your cultural attitudes and beliefs from home and expect they are the same where you are going. Sure, if you want to throw your leg over as many women as possible, you can find women in bars like anywhere and moreso in Asia. It is due to poverty, not due to your appearance. I am so glad to have read comments by Korean women backing up their attraction towards Korean men. I find it insulting to decent 'westerners' as well as being embarrassing to think that we have fools like this sending out the wrong message. Just another asshole who thinks his skin colour makes him superior.
And that is not to say that there are not Asian women who are attracted to men of a different appearance. And yes, I have a penchant for Asian women and hope to find a nice lady to settle down with one day and get married. And there's nothing wrong with that! Nothing wrong with personal preference. I don't consider myself to be the most qualified teacher around either. In fact I am only in possession of two diplomas, a TEFL certificate, halfway through a BA degree (by correspondence) and 12 months worth of teaching here in Vietnam. But, at least I really try to do a good job and NEVER fraternise with my students. ;)
