In Response To: Can American civilians visit the bases in S. Korea? (Shannon)
Shannon - I am X navy and have been on many types of basis. Joe is right, but only with respect to the Army. My suggestion is take a trip outside of Seoul and visit an Airforce Base. (Osan i believe is the closest one). you do need a sponsor however, any friend with a military ID can sign you on as a guest. On Air Force basis, you do not need an ID to enter the commissary or shop on base (such a disjoint between the US forces huh) ... i did not have anyone to sign on base in south korea since i was stationed in Japan - but I know that in Japan, the Air Force basis allow visitors to shop at the commissary (i know because my gf and i shopped there once). If someone is from the air force stationed in s. korea - please shine some light on this one.
