English schools in Latin America

Brazil - Salvador (Piatã)
School:Pan American School of Bahia

Founded in 1960, the Pan American School of Bahia (PASB) is cooperatively owned by parents and operates as a non-profit, non-denominational, college-preparatory institution for American, International and Brazilian students. The academic program includes Early Childhood Education (ECE) for 3 and 4 year old children, an elementary unit (kindergarten-5), a middle school (6-8) and a four-year high school (9-12). With a low student-teacher ratio, the School can provide the individual attention necessary for students’ personal development and academic achievement. At all levels, students are encouraged to use their own initiative and are taught the value of research, inquiry, and discovery. Emphasis is on the development of English language skills and all classroom instruction is in English.

The School's teaching staff comprises both North America and Brazilian educators, experienced in pedagogical and methodological practices to complement a fully integrated American and Brazilian curriculum. PASB teachers are dedicated to helping children discover the best in themselves. They are concerned about what a child learns as well as how a child learns. The School’s 15,500 square meter campus is a tropical garden complete with lush vegetation and colorful birds.

The middle/high school building contains 13 air-conditioned classrooms, 2 science labs, a library/media center and a centralized computer lab. The elementary complex contains 15 spacious, air-conditioned classrooms, an art center, and a centralized computer lab. Athletic facilities include a covered gymnasium, 2 soccer fields, an outdoor basketball court, a semi-olympic swimming pool, and several playground areas. The School’s canteen provides snacks and nutritional lunches daily.

Student Exchange:
A number of high school students participate in exchange programs with high schools in the United States. With careful planning through both the counselor and registrar’s office, students may transfer credits upon their return to the Pan American School.

College Placement:
Over 95% of PASB students are accepted in college or university programs either in the US or in Brazil upon completion of their studies.

Professional Affiliations:
The Pan American School of Bahia is accredited through the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) in the United States and is recognized by the Secretary of Education of the State of Bahia. The School holds memberships in the American Association of Schools in South America (AASSA), the American Association of Schools in Brazil (AASB), the Association for the Advancement of International Education (AAIE), and is an American-sponsored over-seas school assisted by the U.S. Department of State.
