English schools in Latin America

Chile - Santiago (La Reina)
School:Grange School

Lower Prep, Upper Prep and Senior.

Mr. John A S Jackson founded the Grange School on June 4, 1928. He was Chilean born to a family of British origin in the port of Valparaiso. After he did his secondary studies in a Boarding School in Cheltenham, England, he went on to Cambridge University, returning to Chile inspired to found a school based on the educational principles he had seen first hand in England, in particular, the concept of ‘fair play’ and the notion of the ‘all-rounder’.

Today The Grange School has 1,700 students on roll, with 60 boys and girls per year group, with about 25 per class. During the first four years of schooling the number of students per class does not exceed 22. For the Upper Prep and Senior School there may be smaller sets depending on the electives and programmes being followed.

Location: Santiago is at 543 meters above sea level, in Chile's central zone. The Pacific Ocean is located a 100 Km. away to the West and the Andean Mountain Range, 40 kms to the East.

The majestic Andean Mountain Range can be seen from almost anywhere in the city. Due to its geographic location, Santiago is one of the few capital cities in the world which has easy access both to ski slopes -just 50 kms. away-, and beaches, 100 kms. away. It is in fact possible to visit the modern ski resorts as well as the famous beach resort of Viña del Mar or picturesque Valparaiso, Chile's main port, in just one day. Numerous villages located in the countryside around Santiago invite the visitor to relax and enjoy the peace and tranquillity of country life.
