English schools in Latin America

Peru - Trujillo (northern coast of Peru)
School:Fleming College The British International School of Trujillo

Mission:
Fleming College is a British Peruvian school which aims to develop intelligent, enquiring, open minded, positive, bi-lingual individuals, who enjoy an international perspective, and who achieve their potential through a balanced and demanding curriculum. We also strive to ensure a commitment to social values which will allow our students to live humane, productive lives with which they will contribute to a democratic society.

Vision:
On entering Fleming College you will find a school which is safe, orderly and attractive. A place where everyone is treated with courtesy, care, trust and respect. A place where people learn for the joy of learning, read for the love of reading and communicate fluently both in Spanish and in English. A place which demands high academic, artistic and sporting standards. A place where there is a true commitment to improving conditions on a local, national and international level.

Our curriculum has a mixture of the best and most relevant elements of the Peruvian National Curriculum, the British National Curriculum and the IGCSE. At Fleming we are attempting to provide a curriculum which has an emphasis on learning skills and the ability to think. We do not teach our students to learn in a robot fashion. We want them to be able to access and process information rather than simply memorise it.

We want our students to leave the school as bilingual young men and women ready to enter the university of their choice and ready to tackle the demands of our increasingly changing world.

We want them to have an international outlook and a well developed sense of responsibility for their actions. We organise international exchanges for our students, host students from Europe and employ teachers from a variety of countries.

We have a demanding graduate criteria which takes into account not only academic achievement but effort, conduct and contribution to the life of the school.

Students sit Cambridge English exams up to Proficiency level and sit the IGCSE.

Almost all of our graduates are admitted to universities in Peru and abroad, primarily the United States. We also have graduates in universities in Germany and in Holland.
