Thanks a lot for posting a translation of the adjustments China intends to make to its current visa regs, which will be applied some time in 2013. No surprises, in my view. There seems to be a proposed tightening-up in certain areas, fair enough, but what is disappointing is that there is no relaxation of certain aspects of the visa/residence permit regs that many foreigners regard as being unnecessarily stringent and restrictive. Of course, the background to the visa regs as a whole is that they reflect that the Chinese authorities are unwilling to trust foreigners. In other Asian countries, this is not the case. As for EFL, many Westerners who are or would be good teachers of EFL, will continue to avoid applying for teaching jobs in China because of the needlessy complex and very strict visa regs. I think the Chinese have shot themselves in the foot in this respect. They could have adjusted their visa regs to make them much more foreigner-friendly, but they've gone the other way instead.
