Realize that no societies are perfect, but on the other hand quitting or losing your job in a developed country will not get you thrown in jail or harassed by government officials or even blacklisted. This has happened to people I know personally who have worked in developing countries.
And in China there continues to be no rule of law! Not that I'm complaining about it, mind you!
I've just completed a short stint at a private K12 teaching K5. I've never taught elementary students before and I knew it was a job just for a month when I took it with my L visa. I earned 80 Yuan/ 40-minute class. No complaints and I still have my visa intact.
But that school is paying a Chinese-American and a Chinese-Londoner a mere 50 Yuan/class! Both of 'em have native English and good accents, but they are being considerably underpaid on account of their Asian features. In contrast, their white colleagues are earning at least 50% more/class!
