Yep, expat in Dongbei - you're quite right not to worry. I post in reply to reassure others who might worry if they've had the same experience recently from July 1.

And snap, I've had the same difficulty as you specifically here in Inner Mongolia Auto Region. [edited] U see, I've a Chinese wife, so either I'm offered a new L, or an RP, coz of spousal considerations. I think you'll possibly be offered a 180 day L, as opposed to a 360 dayer, or much more likely, a 360 day RP, but certainly not zilch.

China has introduced new visa legislation in the past. It has caused confucion, but those public officials applying it just after it has applied haven't understand it fully at that time. Par for the course here!

I think this situ will apply right across the board with all types of visas. My take is that the new visa regs are much more complicated than the old ones were. Nonetheless, expect a fair deal eventually coz they didn't query your find fault with your application and were honest enough to politely give you a valid reason for non-issuance instead of beating about the bush!
