A self-serving expat in China is not necessarily a grovelling, snivelling person unless he/she is licking the employer's feet.

Another advice: Do not rely on any third party regarding info on the possibility to do a HK visa run, make sure yourself by finding out with PSB immigration or the local Bureau of Foreign Experts.

Beijing may be another option to obtain a Z visa without the need to leave the country. First, you would need to make sure you would find a reliable/decent employer there who would process all the necessary stuff for you. Again, make sure yourself and don't rely on third-party information only.

needless to say, I kept my distance from said grovelling, snivelling person. Thanks so much again!
