Know Your Rights

My former school wants me to do extra work.

Hello, to whom it may concern

I have just finished a 9 month university contract and now back at home in America. I did everything that my head (Chinese) teacher told me to do when working the university. I have already received my release and recommendation letter and used the plane ticket they provide to fly back home.

However, my head teacher did not like the scores that I submitted for my mid term and finals for my students telling me there were too high for my level of students, since it did not support his research showing most students improving over time. The head teacher had hardly ever talked to me during my time teaching at the university and the only feedback I have received from him was to make the classes more fun. Now, he is making all sorts of demands like redoing the scores for the students, and asking for copies of my mid term and finals that I have given to my former students, right after I got home and no longer work for his school. He has also made all sorts of threats like I will not receive my summer holiday pay. In addition, I will have to give him my reasons for not finishing all of my duties and he'll decide whether I will be able to receive my summer pay after I complete all the additional work.

The head teacher has also told me that if I do not do the additional work that he demanded that I will have to pay the school a fine between $500 - 2000 dollars, otherwise the school will file a complaint against me and I will never be able to work in China again! The head teacher seems to be the only one sending me threatening e-mails, so I do not know how serious this situation is to the school.

My questions are what are my rights?

I do have the e-mail address to director of FT at this school, which is also his supervisor. Should I e-mail him and complain about my former head teacher threatening e-mails?

Should I just ignore him and file a complaint against the school when I return to China provided I did not receive my summer pay?

I have quite a few things to do in America and I will not be back in China until Jan/ Feb 2016.

Thanks for reading my post.
