In Response To: Chinese Government announce new immigration laws (Confuseius)

My local PSB office has declined acceptance of my visa application of the 2nd of July despite all my paperwork being in order. I was informed politely that there is a problem on account of the new visa laws. (I presume the office doesn't want to put itself in a situation of non-compliance with the new visa regulations regarding the issuance of a new L visa to me.)

My current tourist visa is valid until Monday the 8th of July. I've been asked to telephone the PSB on Friday the 5th of July. I'm not worried about this, but I thought it was worth mentioning.

Finally, I should add that being caught teaching illegally is now punishable by deportation plus a 10,000 RMB fine plus a 10-year ban on his subsequent return to the PRC. That's heavy punishment in my view. In contrast, in Australia, any alien caught working illegally will face a 5-year ban on his subsequent return to Australia after deportation and a fine, though I suspect the fine will be much lower than the equivalent of the Chinese one, namely 10,000 RMB.

The laws are now on the books, but in China whether or not they will be universally applied is another matter. I suspect they won't be, but I could be mistaken - time will tell!
