Thanks for your good wishes. I'm wondering why I've had more than the usual BS to put up with at the visa hall this time round. It could be that they suspect me of teaching illegally at the Gong DA Electric University of Hohhot, whose campus is in Jinchuan district. The teaching building is very impressive - it has golden spires and looks somewhat like a Gothic cathedral! It so happens that my apartment is within a short walk of said college.

However, I'd be a bloody fool to teach illegally, given the penalties are 10,000 RMB + a 10 year ban from re-entering, Chinese wife or not, if I were caught in the act.
Jinchuan district lies to the west of Hohhot. The teaching building I have mentioned used to be a clearly visible landmark from the motorway between Hohhot and Baotou. I dunno if it still is so - it's likely blotted out by all the high-rise these days.
