I understand that the main change for expats abroad is that they will no longer have the option of renewing via their consulate, (either in person or by post) in the country where they reside or work.

As, HK is technically "not" China, it doesn't sound too different from now? Or do you mean china based expats won't be ABLE to do get a passport from HK,while in China? It is all very confusing this passport stuff.

As for moving, I prefer to travel light. Acquiring cheap stuff that breaks easily always seems to be a headache when moving. Yes those tricycle drivers are like vultures!
