Toddler Christmas Activities for Sunday School
By:Carolyn Scheidies

Christmas activities for toddlers in Sunday school should be uncomplicated, straightforward and not take a great deal of time. Little children are active with attention spans that carry them quickly from one activity to another, so projects should engage their attention and provide hands-on opportunities. Expect a lot of wriggling and jumping up and down. Arrange for helpers to assist toddlers so they do not lose focus or give up on the project.

Sing a Song
Teach toddlers to sing "Away in a Manger" as well as how to make motions to accompany the lyrics. Rock a baby by keeping your arms together. Lay your head on your hands when singing about the searching for a place to lay their heads. Point up when singing about the stars. When singing about cattle, have children stop to "Mooo." Create motions for whatever verses you teach the toddlers.

Create a Nativity
Copy and print out different parts of the nativity scene such as the stable, Mary and Joseph, Jesus in the manger, shepherds and animals including sheep, oxen and a donkey. Help the toddlers build the scene by gluing the figures onto a sheet of card stock. Allow them to color around the edges of the picture to create a frame for it.

Christmas Wreath
Create a Christmas wreath outline on a piece of card stock or cardboard. Cut out the wreath outline, but do not cut out the center portion. Let toddlers color the wreath, leaving the center clear. Add a large bow to the lower part of the wreath. Punch a hole near the top for a yarn or ribbon for hanging.
