How To Defeat Your Critics – For Nerds, Dreamers, Geeks And The Crazy Ones
By:Joe DePalma

Have you ever noticed that a critic gets much more attention when they criticize something negatively than they do if they were to celebrate that same thing positively? That is the fundamental factor of a critic’s world. Now I ask you what kind of person would be attracted to that kind of world? The answer is critics do not become negative or pessimistic people, but rather negative or pessimistic people become critics. So why do we continually let them get under our skin?

Well, it all starts for most truly successful people when they just have to say, “Screw It” to the pressure and expectations of doing what society expects of them. This is when they will finally take their stand and begin to follow their own path towards true happiness and fulfillment.

When something like this happens to you, you officially become one of the crazy ones. A crazy one is someone who can visualize an idea and have the guts to develop that image into reality. The secret behind what the crazy ones know is that first they are called mad, and then they are honored and rewarded for their genius and vision.

The crazy ones face all kinds of criticisms in the name of being different. They toil vigorously, sometimes to no end. They occasionally make mistakes and need to start all over again. However, the crazy ones know that setbacks like these are not failures, but rather necessary boulders and much needed roots along their path to true happiness and fulfillment.

Although most people would see these boulders and roots as obstacles, the crazy ones realize that they need those obstacles to strengthen themselves for what lies ahead. On a daily basis, the crazy ones are misunderstood and labeled as geeks, dreamers or any other shade of weird just because they have the courage and the desire to follow the vision they have for their own life. Most people fear that vision and spend their entire lives running from it or trying in vain to forget about it, but not the crazy ones. The crazy ones take the risks. They stare fear in the face. They answer the bell.

Basically, the crazy ones are the people who think they can make this world a better place, but instead of worrying about producing quick results, they concentrate on generating lasting impressions. On the opposite side of the spectrum are the judgmental critics who tear into the crazy ones every chance they get because they do not understand what it takes to create something out of nothing. The critics are people who actually enjoy spending their time condemning whatever results the crazy ones are producing on their way to fulfilling their vision.

For the most part, people of judgment and those known as critics are completely in love with their own words and absorbed in their own worlds. Critics throughout the ages have attempted to crush the hopes of influential people in history including modern day visionaries such as Albert Einstein, Bill Gates, Bob Dylan, Oprah Winfrey, Martin Luther King Jr., Amelia Earhart, John Lennon, Steve Jobs, Thomas Edison, and Mahatma Gandhi, just to name a few.

For every crazy one who sticks his or her neck out to realize their vision and to push the human race forward, there will be a hundred critics waiting to pounce on them like a flock of vultures on a single slab of meat. Not only will the critics tell a crazy one that their ideas won’t work, but they will also explain in excruciating detail why they think so in their own pompous, underachieving language. This way they feel like they themselves have created something out of nothing. That’s how the critics get their kicks. They do not stick their necks out themselves, so they are relegated to praying on the crazy ones by telling them that their visions are “implausible and devoid of reputable substance.”

When you think about it, what qualifications does someone need to be a critic? They usually exhibit a large vocabulary and hopefully some level of knowledge within the topic they are criticizing, but other than that, what else do they really need? The answer is NOTHING AT ALL. That is why a crazy one must never let a critic extinguish the fire in their heart and the spirit behind their vision.

If you are a crazy one you already have a target painted on your back that says, “Here I am! Criticize me!” There is nothing you can do to stop the criticisms, so you might as well use them as fuel to turn
your fire into an inferno!

Push forward. Go further. Create your vision!

A Final Message to All “Crazy Ones”

Always remember that throughout history there has never been a statue
built to honor a critic. The honors and monuments of the world are
reserved for those who are hopelessly different and proud to be called
a “Crazy One.”

List three things that make you a “crazy one.”

1)_______________________________________________________

2)_______________________________________________________

3)_______________________________________________________

You need to express these items more in your pursue of success.
Even if they don’t seem popular, they are parts of you that need to be
expressed. You now have permission to let these qualities loose. Be
constructive and be yourself!
