How to Motivate Your Husband

During the course of a marriage, a husband can sometimes lose his motivation to accomplish certain tasks. A man can lose motivation to work out or a man who has been laid off might lose the motivation to find a new job. A man's wife is often the closest person in his life and what she says and does can can either restore his motivation or make matters worse.

Find an outside source to explain to your husband that he has a problem that needs to be addressed. For example, if your husband's lack of exercise is causing problems to his health, then allow your doctor to speak with him. Support your husband and tell him that you will help him fulfill all of the doctor's requirements. Cook healthier meals for him. Avoid negative comments about his weight or health. Instead, praise him for the changes he's made.

Be patient with your husband and allow him time to get moving on whatever it is that's bothering you. For instance, if your husband lost his job, allow him time to cope with the loss. Avoid nagging and being pushy because having you be supportive will work much better to motivate your husband. Talk with your husband and help him plan out his next move because it could be in a different job field altogether. Avoid giving up on your husband if things take longer than expected because any negativity from you could harm your husband's motivation. Spend less money and work on the weekends if that's what's needed until your husband is back on his feet.

Remember that most men hate being bossed around. Avoid demanding him to do the things that you want to see get done. For example, avoid telling him to fix the leak in the basement. Instead, ask him what he thinks would be the best way to take care of the leak.

Allow your husband to see you take the very actions that you want him to do. For example, if you want your husband to work out more, allow him to see you go jogging in the mornings. Ask him whether he would like to join you and tell him that it will be fun if the two of you did it together. Ask him whether he wants to get on the same low-calorie diet that you've switched to. Lead by example because it will have a bigger effect on your husband's motivation than if you simply sit back and complain about what he's not doing.
