Nice introdution to brainstorming. I would just add another approach which is called " nominal group technique". This is a form of structured brainstorming where the original ideas that come from the participants are filtered by the participants themselves. It's far more effective in my experience. I would also add that flat management and reporting structures are much better than adopting a 'committee' approach.
