Motivation Tips

Motivation - 5 Simple Ways to Keep Ourselves Motivated
By:Marcus C. S. Tan

There will always be times in our lives when we feel unmotivated, and this leads to our tasks not being done, as we do not have the "push" to complete it. As humans, we tend to procrastinate, leaving our tasks to be completed at a later time. We drag our feet when we walk when we are feeling down, feeling listless and thinking of negative thoughts. Thus, one of the ways we distract ourselves from such negativeness by using entertainments such as paying games, sports, music etc.

To understand the root cause of our unmotivation, we need to ask ourselves "Why?" Continuing to focus on the current dull task does not solve the problem. We need to look at the bigger picture and ask ourselves why are we bothered in the first place. Say if it is due to the death of a close friend or relative. If that is the cause of unmotivation, perhaps speaking to someone with a listing ear or seeking a counselor can set things right. However, if there is no answer to that question, then there's a good chance we should not be bothered with it anyway.

The second tip as how to stay motivated is to move around. Get our bodies moving as if we were extremely motivated to do something. This 'faking it' approach to motivation may seem silly or crude, but it works. We may end up laughing at ourselves but this period of happiness will keep us moving.

Kick start your day by planning out. As the saying goes, failing to plan is planning to fail. We can get up early and prioritise all the important things to be done for the day. Breaking up a huge task into chunks makes the work more manageable. Also, by building momentum early in the day can usually carries us forward far later.

There is another saying that goes, "two heads are better than one." Therefore, get a Partner. Find someone who will motivate us when we are feeling lazy. Having a friend can help motivate us to work hard when we will normally quit.

Develop a personal mantra can be the next step to motivate ourselves. Statements such as "Do it now!" can focus our minds and motivate us. Such statements can be taken from motivational posters, or just a few words to tell us what to do.
