Who Else Wants To Stop Complaining And Be Happier?
By:Kari Farmer

The urge to complain is around every corner, and the urge to stop complaining is there as well! So how do we let our urge to stop complaining win and start the process of happiness and positive thinking? We practice until we have it down.

There is no way you will wake up today with a new mentality that allows you to stop complaining cold turkey. Complaining takes a lot of time and energy to get good at. We practice our whole lives at being negative and irritable. So it goes to say that changing that behavior will take some serious practice as well. But once you start putting in the effort you will find that not-complaining becomes easier. It will start to become a habit just like complaining has become and you will be able to instantly see the brighter side of life.

If your life is totally crappy right now and you are wondering how you could even start looking at a brighter side, then just remember that your life is not going to get any better if you keep complaining. Complaining holds us back from doing things that will make our lives better.

For instance, if you hate your job and you always complain about it then chances are you also complain about how you are stuck in this job or how you are not qualified to do anything else but this stinking job. This mentality will hold you back from learning new skills to get another job. You are literally telling yourself day after day that you can't do it, and eventually your mentality will be 'why even bother trying?'.

One tactic you may want to try is the 'It could be worse!' mentality. This may not be an outright positive mentality but it's much easier than thinking 'My in-laws spending a week here is GREAT!'. Chances of you convincing yourself of that thought are pretty slim when you hear your mother-in-law talk about how you should be doing this instead of that. But thinking that it could be worse will allow you to see that this is not as bad as it could get which will instantly allow you to see the situation with a little less negativity.

Let's use the above example. Every time you get upset about your mother-in-law and her smart comments remember that you could have to live with her permanently. That should be enough to allow you to be grateful that they will be gone in a week!

Remember that it always could be worse - always! Be grateful for what you have and you will start to find more things to be grateful for. Eventually you will start to really focus on those positive things and that should help you to replace some negative complaints with positive thoughts.
