The Power Behind Positive Thinking
By:Paul Sutherland

Loneliness and the accompanying depression are normal for everyone, at one time or another. However, it is considered a real problem when there is no relief after a few days or weeks. Then, it is time to do something, so life can be enjoyed again. Thus, if you are suffering from loneliness, you need to understand the real power of positive thinking.

When individuals suffer a major physical illness, doctors will admit that regaining health is largely due to the attitude of the patient. People who are negative thinkers generally languish longer than those who try to look on the bright side and make every attempt to get better.

Likewise, individuals who are suffering from loneliness, in the truest sense of the word, are more likely to escape the abyss and come out stronger on the other side, if they think positive. However, it is obviously extremely hard to think good thoughts when loneliness has a grip. So, here are some ideas that might help you foster positive thinking:

You are not Alone
You have much to offer
People want to help
You have more strength than you know

You are not alone

Understandably, when individuals are lonely, it is a solitary state of being. It seems as if no one would truly understand, and they would probably not want to be around you in the first place. Nevertheless, you are not alone.

Since loneliness is such a personal issue, no one generally talks about it. So, the person you think seems so cheerful all the time may also be struggling with feeling alone. Like you, no one goes around wearing a placard. Oftentimes, just opening up to one person you trust will dispel those misconceptions. Plus, you will be able to vent those negative emotions and start moving forward.

You have much to offer

You may not realize it, but you have much to offer. You do not need a college degree or have lots of money. You do not have to part of some social circle. Yet, you still have plenty to offer.

You can volunteer at the soup kitchen in your neighborhood. All you need is a good heart and the willingness to help. Not only will it get you out of the house, you will be surprised how a simply smile can make a difference to those that are down and out.

Alternatively, you can get involved in other community activities, or become more than a bench warmer where you worship. Your church could undoubtedly use you help in one way or another. Think positive, and find a way you can contribute to the lives of others.

People want to help

Realize that people really do want to help. Oftentimes, the people closest to you do not even realize you are so lonely, because you hold it inside. Even if they do, knowing what to do is a problem. Without some invitation to intrude upon your loneliness, they are simply waiting and feeling helpless. It is up to you. Do not close yourself off from the people who want to be part of your life. As a result, the loneliness will be a thing of the past in no time at all.

You have more strength than you know

Finally, you have more strength than you know. Once decided you do not want to be lonely any longer, and that you are going to do something about it, you will be surprised. You will find ways to keep loneliness from creeping back. When the negative emotions start to take hold again, you will find something to keep you busy and erase those thoughts.

You have the real power of positive thinking, if you choose to accept it. You have the strength if you choose to employ it. Most importantly, you can be truly happy and wave bye-bye to loneliness, if you really want it.
