Tips For Getting Over a Bad Relationship
By:Kristiana Jones

So you finally realize that he/she is not the one for you and you found your way out of a bad relationship. Now what? The most important thing you need to do is keep your distance from your ex. Even if right now you are fuming, angry and you feel like you want to run them down with your car that moment is inevitably going to come where you miss them. Maybe it's a song on the radio, a smell of perfume/cologne, or maybe running into a friend that you both shared great times with but something is going to trigger that feeling of wanting to see them.

Do not pick up the phone to call. If you left your favorite t-shirt at their house, buy another one. Do not accept their calls either. Many times you will be feeling lonely and that one moment can send you spiraling back into their arms and back into the bad relationship that you have broken free from. Remember-out of sight out of mind.

You can help to alleviate your loneliness by surrounding yourself with good friends and family. Many times when people become a couple, they lose touch with their friends. Call them up and do something fun. Take a walk, see a movie, and meet for coffee. Just steer clear of places you went together as a couple all the time where you have a great chance of "accidentally" running into your ex. If you are really in the pits, you might want to rule out drinking excessively for a while. Besides the fact that alcohol is a depressant, it also leads to drunken dialing and bad judgment so unless you think you are strong enough not to open up the lines of communication, you might want to stick to nonalcoholic drinks.

One of the best ways to move on after a bad relationship is to become YOU again. Many people lose part of who they are when they become a couple. If you like camping and your ex hated it, you might not have gone recently. Pack up your gear and go camping! Do something that you love. You never know- you just might find someone there who also loves to do what you do! And don't be afraid to pamper yourself. Go for that massage or get your hair cut at that salon that you never wanted to splurge on before. Play that round of golf at the course that costs a day's pay to play. Treat yourself to something special because you deserve it. Just make sure you don't over indulge like running yourself into debt or eating yourself out of your jeans. When the pain of the break up goes away, it will leave you with those problems to deal with.

The most important thing to remember when coming out of a bad relationship is that when love comes again (and yes...it will come again), give it a chance. Don't judge the new based on the old. As the old saying goes, "You have to kiss a lot of frogs before you get your prince". Just make sure when you find your prince, you don't treat him and expect him to act like a frog. Give it a chance and let your past bad relationship be your past. Of course you want to learn from mistakes, just don't make it baggage. Love and allow yourself to be loved and you will look back at this ex like they were just another bump in the road of life.
