Persistence - 3 Tips For Strengthening It
By:Anthony D Carter

Persistence is a vital ingredient in your success or failure. If you don't have enough perseverance then you will most certainly fail.

However if you are able to weather the storm in the face of trials, heart aches and disappointments while pursuing your goals you will eventually meet with success.

Here are 3 tips for strengthening your persistence.

Revisit the dream. Consistently remember what it is that you are working for.

If it is a new car, a college degree, or your own successful business, imagine yourself in possession of it. Get pictures of what it is that you want and look at them often. Put yourself in the pictures. Imagine what it is going to be like when you get what it is that you want.

Maintaining a clear vision of the object of your desire gives you the motivation you need to keep going on in spite of discouraging circumstances.

Monitor the results. As you are following your plan check to see if you are on track. Let's say you planned to save $1,500 in six months for a down payment on that new car that you wanted. You planned to save $250 per month. If you only have $300 saved 3 months into your plan then you've gotten off track. You are going to be disappointed 3 months later unless you make some adjustments.

To often we make a plan then we start working the plan but we don't look at the results along the way. With this approach you will miss your goals and get frustrated. In order to stay on coarse examine your results on a regular bases. This way you can avoid potential shortfalls that are within your control. You will stay on track and thus stave off discouragement.

Take breaks. Be sure to step away from your work from time to time. It may seem like taking time off is counter-productive, but it is quite the opposite. You will find that are actually stronger upon returning after taking a break or vacation.

I have struggled with this one before in the past, but I have discovered the benefits of taking breaks. I usually come back to my work more aware of opportunities that I had previously overlooked. As the saying goes, I was too close to the forest to see the trees.

When you take time off you gain a fresher perspective. And your energy level will be higher as a result of taking that time off. Also taking a break will give you the endurance that you need to completely follow through with your plans. Taking regular breaks protect you against burn out.

Use these tips to increase your level of persistence. Your dream or desire demands a price that must be paid by you in advance before you can possess it. But the reward is worth it. Stick with your plan. Persist and you will obtain the prize.
