Ten Simple Ways to Love Yourself a Little More Each Day
By:Lisa Jaye Murray

To be truly happy and satisfied with life you need to find ways to love yourself. So many people complain that nobody likes them and that they are all alone, but how are other people supposed to love you if you don't love yourself? You are the only person you can depend on to look after you, so take the job seriously. Here are ten ways to love yourself and generally improve your outlook on the world.

1. Take a day off

We all know the saying 'a change is a good as a rest', so take a day out from your usual routine and spend it doing something unusual. Go for a picnic, visit a museum or a theme park, or simply explore a new town.

2. Eat well

Eating a well balanced diet is crucial to maintain your energy levels and make you feel great. Make sure you get plenty of fruit and vegetables every day as well as white meat and fish, and wholegrain.

3. Get some exercise

There's nothing like a brisk walk or cycle ride to get the endorphins flowing and make you feel great. Any kind of exercise will invigorate you, and if you can manage to get out in the fresh air that's a real bonus.

4. Have a good night's sleep

Maybe your busy schedule doesn't allow you ten hours sleep every night, but when you do get the chance, have a hot bath, a milky drink and an early night. Going to bed early is much more effective than sleeping late in the morning. Try to plan at least one early night every week.

5. Lean on your friends

Are you the type of person that wants to do everything yourself and can't admit when you are struggling to cope? Swallowing your pride and asking your friends and family for support can really make a difference; after all you'd be there for them if they needed you.

6. Take a class

Whether it's salsa dancing, painting, a foreign language, or computing; taking a class and learning a new skill can expand your mind and give you a new perspective. Even an evening class once a week can make a difference and provide a change from your daily routine.

7. Revamp your wardrobe

Sort through your wardrobe and get rid of anything that is worn out, doesn't fit, or that you haven't worn for more than a year. You don't need to spend a fortune, but perhaps buy a few key pieces that you can mix and match with what you already have. When you look good you feel good, and dressing well every morning will improve your mood even if you don't plan to go anywhere special.

8. Treat yourself

Make time to do something you really enjoy each week, even if it's as simple as reading a trashy magazine or watching a football game. Make sure you prioritize whatever activity you choose to do so you aren't sidetracked by work or mundane household tasks.

9. Do a good deed

Nothing makes you feel as good as doing a kind deed for someone else. If you have an elderly neighbor, offer to go shopping for them or mow their lawn. If you have free time at the weekend try volunteering at a goodwill store. Whatever you decide to do, being kind to others can justifiably make you feel proud of yourself.

10. Limit the negativity in your life

It's great to know what's going on in the world, but the media is so full of negativity and bad news you might want to limit the amount of time you spend reading newspapers and watching the TV news. Similarly, you might like action adventure movies, but watching fight scenes and suffering every night won't be good for your overall mood. Surround yourself with positive and happy people who will always be able to cheer you up.
