In Search of Happiness - A Personal Journey
By:Larry Icabandi Nabiong

Happiness is an intangible thing; only a state of mind. Of course, the cause of such feeling can be material things such as fancy cars, big house, big bucks in the bank, etc... or it can be achievement such as job promotion, recognition, and the like... or it can be just a simple feeling of being with nature secluded like hermit in the cave, to mention a few.

Whichever way you want to feel happy, it is a personal journey. It is also a personal responsibility. Nobody can tell you to be happy, for happiness is a natural, subjective feeling of accomplishing, experiencing a thing or two... and this cannot be bought!

To compare ones happiness with others is unhealthy. Just like comparing apples and oranges, happiness differs from person to person. Just like throwing diamonds to boars in the sty. They would be after spoiled food, instead!

Happiness for a child is to see and embrace his mother; for a street child or waif, a waste can for scavenging food; for a lowly farmer, a drizzle; for a teacher, a learner's work of art; for a boss, a good worker...

Well, once we have attained so-called nirvana or heavenly feeling of joy, we tend to forget everything under the sun--and moon-- say, pending concerns and the like.

Happiness is attitude. How we feel about a thing or two, we are making ourselves feel blessed or cursed. And in order to have positive feeling, we are responsible to think positive, feel positive.

In my forty years of existence, I can say that my previous years of being tossed from one situation to another were full of learning experiences! And one thing that I treasure the most is the wisdom to find powers to be authentic.

Whatever I have-- and do not have-- now, is my contentment.
