Motivation Tips

Why Some Succeed, and Some Don't
By:Jonathan Bowler

Why Some Succeed, And Some Don't Is it luck...or perhaps education? Intelligence perhaps? Well, maybe we should define "successful" first. Money is the first thing that comes to mind. We all have different benchmarks for what defines success, and for me, it can be summed up in one word. Happiness. Yes, happiness. It doesn't matter whether your goals in life match other peoples expectations. If you're happy, then you're successful. But how to get there...thats the million dollar question.

Whats the one thing that stops people achieving their goals? You might say it's lack of opportunity, but I'm not going to agree with that (at least not entirely). Take somebody stuck in the same old boring 9-5 job. Working hard all week, so he/she can have the weekend with the kids. Then it's back to work again on monday - and so it goes on. What's stopping that person from living the life they REALLY want? Free from financial worry, time to spend with the family, and owning a few of lifes luxuries? Fear. Most people are comfortable with what they know, they're frightened to step outside the square - they NEED a safety net in case things don't work out. So they stay in that same old boring job...and never find out what life can really offer. And before you know it, lifes passed you by - you only get one shot at it, so why not give it your best one?

Motivation Six months ago, I was in a secure well paid job for a large mulit-national company. But security, and a good salary doesn't necessarily equal happiness . At least not for me. So after taking the time to consider the possibilities, I quit. And it was scarey, I admit it.

I overcame my fear of the unknown - and let me tell you something. The threat of imminent hunger and impovrishment makes a great motivator! So instead of working part-time on websites, it became full time. It had to. So now, this is my full time job...and it's the best move I ever made. I may not become rich, but thats not the point. No, the point is that I didn't let my fear of the unknown keep me in a position that was making me unhappy, and I was able to make the break to do what I love. To me, that's success, no matter what the outcome.
