Motivation Tips

How To Stay Motivated
By:Amy Jones

Getting the motivation to begin your journey was the beginning of your challenge; the rest of it is knowing how to stay motivated. After all, it was pretty pointless starting something you had no intentions of finishing. Knowing how to stay motivated is not difficult, but perhaps you may need a gentle reminder to keep you focused on the task ahead.

Connect with piers, NO this is not a spelling mistake. Piers hold things up; your peers are there to hold you up. Connect with them and share with them. Your family, friends or even an unfamiliar support group are there to watch your back, as you would do for them. It’s no accident that fans attending their favorite sporting events are called supporters. Supporters are what motivate our sporting heroes to greater glory.

To stay motivated join or create a support network, these groups offer experience advice in how to stay motivated.

Discuss how you are feeling. Ask someone how to stay motivated. The hardest thing to deal with in the duration of any challenge is isolation. By talking to someone who has experienced some similar challenge, you may just be surprised to find that they also encounter the same difficulties as you are facing. Some may have lost focus, these are the ones that will that will congratulate you on your strength to endure. Praise is a wonderful motivator. Some will have achieved the mark. These are the people who will inspire you to keep on at it.

Talking to someone about your aspirations even if they have no real clue, or even a care about what you are doing is a great way motivate yourself to “git er done” Most people will be supportive of you regardless of their own feelings for your project. Remember that these people will be as rewarded with your success as you will be. Some may not be so supportive; these are the ones you get to show off to. That’s motivation in itself.

Reward yourself along the way. Success in a project is its own reward, but regular rewards in the duration of your journey are little reminders that you have certainly something to be proud of, and what you are doing is not in vain. Rewards along the way are reminders that the big prize is even sweeter. Rewards do not have to be in the form of some trinket or play date. Certainly these may also be fitting rewards for your project also. Reward yourself with praise.

Chart your progress. Sometimes when you have been at a project for a long time especially, it is easy to get to a point where you feel like you have not achieved anything. You may feel like you have come nowhere in your journey. Charting your progress and being able to see how far you have come is an amazing motivator. Set the path and follow the map. Recognize the progression you have already accomplished.

Write this down on a big piece of paper "How to stay motivated” and stick it on your refrigerator. When your feel yourself losing motivation simply read it back for yourself.

Take time out. If ever you feel like it’s just too hard, your motivation is sure to waver if you are not enjoying yourself. Take time to laugh, and take the time to reflect on your mission. Better still, make your task enjoyable, take time out while you’re keeping on. The more fun you’re having the more motivation you’re having. Motivation is having fun.

Remember the reasons you began your journey Motivate yourself with logic. Obviously your mission was to serve some purpose; after all if it never did you would not have found the motivation to begin with. Write your reasons down. Write down what you expect to accomplish and write down what you would have accomplished if you did not stay motivated.

If you fall off, get back on. Sometimes live does seems to throw us a hard one. Sometimes you will lose focus and forget how to stay motivated, but you worked hard enough to get to the point that you were at when you fell. Starting again doesn’t mean starting from where you were to begin with. Along the way, you gained a wealth of experience. This is what you will be using to get right back to the point you fell, and you already have the motivation. The sooner you get up again, the easier it is to keep on keeping on.

I wish you well in your journey. I wish you motivation to get you there.
