Passion - More Than Dayime Television
By:Ryan Porter

How often do you hear the word passion? What context is it usually in? Have the times become so dismal that the only time we hear the word ‘passion’ is on daytime television and bath products?

The exact reason is unknown but somehow, somewhere along the lines of time people began to settle. They settled for less than passionate careers, less than passionate relationships and they settled for less than passionate lives. Then, to make everyone else feel like they are normal, people began to introduce idioms that justified their passionate-less, mediocre lives. They began telling their children, friends and family things like, “You can’t always get what you want” or “Life isn’t supposed to be easy!” Maybe you have heard; “You can’t have your cake and eat it too!”

These sayings and idioms have conditioned the majority of the human population to suffocate their potential, to settle for something less than their best and to be content rather than be happy.

“Somewhere along the lines, kids in school were being taught that they need to be realistic and to stop dreaming about what they would love to do because in ‘the real world’, you can’t get a job that you love to do” says Ryan Porter, the creator of the Make Your Own Lunch™ program. He goes on to say, “The advice to ‘stop dreaming’ because you will never get a job that you love to do is completely and utterly false! The advice we need to give each other is, you must get a job that you love doing. Don’t settle for anything less than your dreams! Be passionate about what you are doing or don’t do it!”

Passion is not luck and it’s not something left to a higher power to decide for you. For many people, their passion is something that has been instilled in them their entire lives. For others it’s something they have learned on their journey through life.

One of the definitions at Dictionary.com defines passion as: boundless enthusiasm.

How many people can say their life is full of boundless enthusiasm? Don’t be one of the people who are being weighed down by distorted perception of passion and the role it can have in your life.

Ryan questions a popular idiom. “You can’t have your cake and eat it too? That’s ridiculous! You must have your cake and eat it too! That’s the only way you will ever get to eat cake!”

Passion doesn’t mean perfection. Of course there will still be obstacles and roadblocks as you progress towards a more passionate life. But remember your life is meant to be full of passion. Every area of your life can be more passionate and filled with ‘boundless enthusiasm’.

One historic phrase sums it up nicely, “Let them eat cake!”
