Motivation Tips

Seven Steps for Effective Self-Motivation
By:Matthew Roberts

You can list down all your life goals… fulfilling your greatest desires, getting your perfect job, buying the car of your dreams.

However, it will all be worthless if you do not push yourself to take action. And when it comes to taking action, motivation is a key part.

So here are helpful tips in improving your self-motivation:

1. Be health conscious. Self-motivation will be at its highest if you get sufficient sleep, eat healthy, and regularly exercise. You will feel much more vibrant and energetic, and therefore more able to work towards your goals.

2. Make a plan. Take time out and write down all the things that you like to do. Plan how you will achieve these things. Identify which is the most important, then start taking action.

3. Practice the 15-minute time rule. When starting a boring task, give yourself a fifteen-minute time limit with a timer. Say to yourself that after the timer goes off you have the option to stop what you are doing. You will soon realize that once you start, you will begin to develop an interest in the task and see it to the end.

4. Find out your “peak hours.” Are you a morning or afternoon person? Find out the time of the day where is you are most energetic. Is it during the morning? Then you should plan to work on the jobs that require more energy during the morning. Late afternoon hours should be reserved for jobs that require less thinking. Vice versa if you are an evening/afternoon person.

5. Stop being a perfectionist. Aim for work accomplishment and not perfection. Striving for perfection often leads to procrastination. There is a tendency for you to not do the job because you feel you won’t have the time to do it perfectly. Accept the fact that it doesn’t always have to be perfect, and get started now.

6. Break down the task into smaller parts. Motivate yourself to do your task one step at a time.

7. Pump yourself up. Spend time each day motivating yourself. Cheer yourself up and be confident that you can accomplish your goal. It is always important to think positively about yourself and your goals.
