How Do You Know It's Time To Do Something Different?
By:Sharon Langford

Wouldn't it be nice if life were signposted like a highway? How much easier it would seem if you were told when to exit; a job, a relationship, a group? Or you came across a 'road closed' sign which told you your current situation was a dead-end. You'd follow those signs wouldn't you?

The fact is that the signs are there and they manifest themselves in a number of ways. Do any of the following seem familiar to you.....

A nagging sense of 'going nowhere': how often do you get this? Once a year? Everyday? The more often you get this sense, the more likely it is that you need to do something... the question is: Do you do something now or do you wait for the sign to fall on you?

Constant niggling illnesses: those regular headaches you get are a sign that something is not right. Do you get them at certain times or is it everyday? (Though please note..... medical signs such as this could mean something much deeper and more serious, do keep an eye on it and seek professional advice where appropriate).

You struggle to find fun in things: when did you last come back from work with a smile on your face and full of energy? Ok, it might not be possible to always come home smiling ......but if everyday is draining and lacks any sense of fun then is that a 'it's time to do something different' sign for you?

Everything feels sluggish and lacks energy: it doesn't matter what you do there's a sense of drudgery about it; at work, at home or a mixture of both. This sense can mean a real time to stop and look at where your journey has taken you - are you in a good place?

You put off making decisions: This is a bit like saying 'I'll stay on this road, it's easier - I know what I'm doing....... Even though I have a gut feel it's taking me in the wrong direction'....... You only have one life; do you want to spend it on the wrong road?

You feel like you're on a treadmill: each day, each week, each month looks the same... this is a bit like motorway hypnosis, i.e when you've been travelling for miles and you realize you're on auto-pilot and can't remember passing the last service station..... frightening! Are you on auto-pilot with your life? Is that ok with you?

Taking control and re-planning or re-focusing your life journey doesn't mean investing in some fancy new technology; wonderful as they are, 'satnavs' have been known to take people down dark, dead end allies. Two simple no-cost applications are: a little time out and a note book.

What would you like to do and where would you like to go?
