Break Free From Self-Sabotaging Behavior
By:De Yuan

In less than 60 days, will be a time where most people get excited. Where the gym will be crowded with so call "gym rat", time for new goals... and people start eating healthy, quitting bad habit and what not. You probably can guess what I was talking about - New Year Resolution.

In my point of view, New Year Resolution seldom or more accurately never works. Because if you don't do it now, most likely you will not do it later. I have seen people and met people who like to wait for a special day to come, New Year, Christmas or their nth birthday before they want to start working for something. I really have no idea how they operate and how they are going to achieve their goals and desires that way.

Waiting for something to happen is another way to tell yourself that you are not being grateful for your current reality. One fact you need to know is that the future lies in the now and the past happens in the now. Without any conscious effort taken, what are the odds of creating different result with the same level of thinking and the same level of awareness?

As Albert Einstein once quoted, "Problems cannot be solved at the same level of awareness that created them".

Everything is in one and one is in everything. When we start to develop one discipline, it will positively impact the rest of the discipline.

There are times we do not take enough necessary action because we did not have self confidence in ourselves. Because we did not believe ourselves and we stopped growing. You brain might tell you if you read this book, you will learn about this, and you will gain so much. Of course, you will gain so much intellectually. But true learning and growing comes from being aware of the knowledge, learning it and putting them into action in experience.

What you learn and do, you understand. Needless to say, I have the credibility to say so because I have read more books then people that is twice my age, as I know. And my experience tell me, I understand more and being able to internalize them by applying what I have learned from the books. Reading and listening can assist you in setting up your mindset, just like igniting the engine. And to get to your destination, you still need to release the break, press the fuel and start driving.

There is not a self improvement book I have seen that does not work. It is only the person who did not do the work, because the results come from action. No result comes from inaction. Many times intellectually we know what do to and what the consequences are when we make certain decision, the key is we are not ready to cope with them emotionally and hence we began to self-sabotage our own success.

What are the signs or patterns of a self-sabotaging behavior?

- External events or circumstances that trigger a series of powerful emotions.

- Negative thoughts that triggers destructive emotion such as fear, stress, anxiety.

- Besides of emotion, your negative thoughts also activate painful memory, or past experiences with negative associations.

- As a result of disbelief in your own ability, you end up procrastinating. Part of the reason is also that you afraid to take anymore action to avoid risk.

- Guess what, with limited action, you end up creating limited results.

One engaged in self-destructive behavior is mainly because they lack of self-confidence. And lack of self-confidence seems to be not having high self-esteem, not loving yourself. Or in other words, not accepting who you are, your body, your current results, your environment. Always remember that no matter what happen, you are still a worthy person. Regardless of what the feedback you receive from the outer world, it is up to you to take it or leave it.

Two things you can start doing now to make a difference:

- I have the rule of thumb, "Act upon it within 24 hours."

- Everything you do, go an extra mile, the more you do, you are actually building your self confidence.
