Why Do You Never Succeed
By:Duncan Kelly

You read all the stories of people who have succeeded, who are happy in their work and making megabucks at the same time, and you wonder, why am I not able to succeed like that?

Well let me tell you right up front, that this article is not an answer to this question, but to show you that the question itself is pretty invalid.

In a long distance race at the Olympics, how many winners are there? One. Three if you count all the podium finishers. How many losers are there? Probably about 100 or so. So who is in the majority here? The losers, right?

So a much more valid question is the one you ask when you succeed: Why have I succeeded? After all, the odds are stacked against success ever happening. Out of the earths population of 8 billion or so, maybe half a percent are successful, meaning you have probably got a 1 in 200 chance of being successful.

So if you fail over and over again, don't get too down on yourself. You're not inferior or stupid or unlucky or anything else. It's just how things are. But don't give up and don't think of yourself as a failure, because you're not. You're just a success waiting to happen. I think God decides when people succeed and when they don't, and He knows how to time it just right. Even if we work our tails off and pour finance into our venture, success is still not guaranteed. We hear of the success stories, which although great in number, pale into insignificance when placed beside the billions of untold stories of failure. Almost everyone has tried at some point to improve their lot in life, but few get it spectacularly right. Many don't get it right at all.

Even when we fail miserably, there are still things that we gain. We gain humility. We realise the worth of the friend who sympathizes with us in our misery, the friend who is a treasure that money cannot buy. We grow in character. We become less judgmental of other people who have failed. We listen more and talk less. We become gentler and kinder and are able to empathise with all those millions of others who are in the same boat as us.

The big thing is to try. Tis better to have tried and failed than never to have tried at all.

So here's to all us triers, successes waiting to happen! In my opinion, if you're alive, you're a success already!
