Motivation Tips
Struggling is just so... ugh isn't it?! No one really wants to struggle. We all want to sail through our experiences and even think that if we're experiencing even the tiniest bit of challenge that must mean that what we're producing is crap. Well that's just WRONG! Struggle is simply a necessary and even vital part of the process of creating.
Eric Maisel says: "Sometimes hating your novel (or other creative endeavor) is part of the process. It just is. You will sometimes actually hate the process even as you fully understand that there can be no other process, no way around it. You must accept this truth. You can choose to say, "I can do this even though it hurts. That honors the process."
The definition of creating is to bring something new into being. When we're struggling with something is when we are actually on the brink of a major breakthrough. We are much better served when we understand that it's within our greatest struggles that we can find our deepest strengths and greatest discoveries.
Some people have created a struggling mindset that sets them up for failure. Is that you? What does a struggling mindset look like? People who hold fast to the issue or problem as defining their person hood and what they're working. They'll even go so far as to state that struggle is a part of their identity. They may say things like "It's always hard for me;" or "These kinds of things only happen to me." If that's you, I'd like you to try on a new mindset, the mindset that struggle is an essential and vital part of the process.
Whenever I'm having a moment of struggle, when I can't find the right word for an article or something else I'm writing/creating I've learned to do a few different things to help me to get through the struggle and on my way to discovery. Here's some suggestions for you to try:
#1 - walk away (get some distance from the struggle. This will create psychological space and you'll get fresh ideas)
#2 - fight for it (stick it out and brainstorm until you have something you know will work)
#3 - ask for help from someone you admire and trust (don't fear judgment just share your dilemma and seek suggestions)
#4 - just put something there as a place holder (in my example I might put the word gobbledygook in to just hold that space so I can keep going. Usually I'll come back to the place holder pretty quick because a new idea will have been sparked by the weird placeholder word!)
#5 - ask the Universe what you should do (one of my favorites. Ask the supreme creator or Universe what you should do. Then listen obey and prosper.)
All of these are great tips to help you move through any struggle. You can also be served by reminding yourself that this too shall pass. The moment of struggle is a temporary one if you will allow it to be so. Struggle only becomes a permanent state of being when we get locked into a struggle mindset and struggle with life in return.
