Motivation Tips

Simple Ways To Boost Your Energy
By:Garry Zancanaro

As most of us lack energy or suffer from tiredness sometimes, if not regularly, it's good to know there are some simple things we can do that will help to give us more energy.

Physical activity can be one of the best ways to boost your energy levels. Even going outside and getting some fresh air, or taking some deep breaths or doing some stretching will help. A long walk, a bike ride or a workout at the gym will usually make you feel more energised, even if you started out tired. Many of us don't get anywhere near enough exercise. Fitting more physical activity into your week and putting your body in motion will help you to relax and clear your mind. It doesn't have to be that much, even going for a walk a couple of times a week will make a difference.

What we eat has a big impact on how much energy we have. Digestion takes up huge amounts of physical energy. Eating a healthier diet, particularly more lighter foods and more fruit, vegetables and whole grain products will give you more energy, as you'll need much less energy for digestion. You'll also feel much better overall by cutting down on red meat and foods that are high in fat, sugar and salt. Limiting alcohol intake will also help.

Control Your Emotions

Highly successful people tend to be more in control of their emotions. They are generally more relaxed, and stay quite calm in most circumstances. They usually don't allow themselves to get upset about little, or even big things. You'll use less energy if you try not to take things personally, or let yourself get involved in arguments or other people's problems. Wherever possible, try to remain objective and avoid taking sides.

Most of us lose our temper from time to time, and sometimes it's better to let go and express what we feel rather than trying to bottle things up. However, most of us would benefit by better controlling the balance between our emotional and mental energies – or our hearts and minds.

Emotional or angry, uncontrolled outbursts can massively drain our strength. Try to take your time responding to things, stop and think before reacting. It may not always be easy, but if you can do this you'll have more energy for more productive uses of your time.

Maintaining a positive outlook can make a massive difference to our energy. Confidently expect the best at all times. You get what you think about and if you keep thinking about what you don't want, all you're doing is making it happen. Thinking about the things you do want, focusing on them and believing they will happen is the best way to bring about the outcomes and results you want in your life. It will also make you much happier and more energetic and motivated.

Who and What Is Influencing You?

Most of us know people who are naturally negative. There's certainly no shortage of people proud to call themselves cynics, who seem to enjoy being critical and looking for the worst in everything and everyone. Some of these peoples can be entertaining and can even be fun to spend some time with. In my experience, this is usually because of being amused and laughing at them and their opinions, rather than with them. But are these healthy relationships in the long term?

Our friends and the company we keep can have a strong impact on the way we think and feel, even without us being aware of it. Take time to think about the people you spend time with – do they lift you up and make you feel more energised, or drag you down and sap your strength? If you minimise the time you spend with negative people you'll not only have more energy, but you have a more positive outlook on life generally.

There's an ever increasing number of people shunning newspapers and TV news due to it being so depressing. It's often been said that no news is good news. Let's face it, how much of the news that is printed or broadcast is negative? Sadly, most of it. It can be difficult to remain positive when faced with constant negativity and bad news, so more and more people aren't bothering. Sure, we do need to stay informed, but surely we'd all be more positive and have more energy if we started each day reading or watching something inspirational rather then something depressing?

Always Look For And Expect The Best

Look for the best in every situation. Remember the old proverb, every cloud has a silver lining? You can find something positive in any situation if you actively look for it. If you just think about the negatives you can be sure that it will sap your strength and drag you down. Looking for the best in every situation will give you energy rather than draining it. Think 'challenges' rather than 'problems', and focus on finding solutions, rather than the issue itself. It will get you thinking it the right direction and fire up your imagination and creativity rather than draining your energy.

Having enough energy to meet the demands of our busy lives can sometimes be tough. However, small changes can make a big difference. A bit more physical activity and watching what you eat will definitely help, so will trying to be more calm and less emotional. Avoiding negative people and influences and being more positive and optimistic generally will not only increase your energy, improve your health and reduce stress, but you'll also enjoy life much more.
