Motivation Tips
When you are extremely motivated it means you are eager to achieve a particular goal for yourself, something or someone. At times the prompts needed to produce your goal-oriented conduct are absent for some reason. Discovering why you lack motivation may be as simple as fitting more "me time" into your schedule. However, trying to discover why your employees lack motivation can be a challenge. Still, it is responsibility as the employer to do so.
Rid your workplace of negativity. If you or members of your management are constantly pointing out what your employees do wrong but never providing positive reinforcement, eventually your employees will cease to remain motivated. According to Greg Blencoe, a Clearview Publications contributor, some employees will refrain from going that extra mile to help the company if they know their efforts will never be acknowledged.
Offer financial incentives to your employees. If you offer your employees a monetary reward to reach specific numbers or a particular goal, not only will their motivation increase, but production at your workplace will swell as well. Piece-rate systems, which offer a monetary incentive based on production quantities; and profit sharing, which offers employees a share of the company's profit, are just a few ways to financially motivate your employees.
Offer nonfinancial incentives to your employees. If the morale and motivation in your workplace is low as the result of a slowing economy, you may not be able to offer your employees a financial incentive, but you can offer nonfinancial ones. For example, you can create an employee-of-the-month parking space or a plaque that can be displayed somewhere in the office where everybody can see it.
Give your employees more responsibility. Showing your employees that you trust them with more responsibility will let them know that you appreciate their contribution to the company. Job enlargement and job enrichment are ideal ways that you can decrease the boredom of your employees' jobs by adding additional duties. For example, if your employee was previously only responsible for writing the order and giving it to you, you can have her write the order and actually enter it into the ordering system.
Ask you employees why motivation is so low. Keeping the lines of communication open between you and your employees is crucial to your organization's success. If the lack of motivation is not the result of outside factors like the economy, it is your responsibility to figure out what is causing the low morale. Close to six out of every 10 employees in America are unhappy with their employer, according to a survey conducted by Right Management, a talent- and career-management consulting firm. If you can get to the root of why your employees are unhappy, you can work to fix the problem.
