Getting Active in Canada
By:Isla Campbell

Some people like to lie on beaches. Others like to immerse themselves in the culture and history of a particular location. But many people will only get really excited by a holiday that takes them out and about; keeping them active and breathing in the fresh air the whole time.

If this sounds like the kind of holiday you would look forward to, why not consider Canada as your next destination?

From glaciers to rivers, and mountains to streams, you'll be overwhelmed by the possibilities that are available when you set foot in this country. For example, have you thought about taking on the rapids and indulging in a white water rafting experience like no other? You'll need a strong stomach and a sense of fun, but you'll probably end up going home fitter than when you arrived!

But if you prefer something a little less energetic, you will really appreciate the various hiking trails that weave their way through the Canadian countryside. Day hiking on a well worn route will guarantee that you will see some of the history of the country - not to mention the wildlife.

Some of the tours are guided, but you can venture off on your own if you wish. Just make sure you know where you are headed, you have a map and a fully charged phone. But for the best hiking experience, try heli-hiking, which as the name suggests, involves a helicopter.

Just imagine being able to take in the majestic glaciers and alpine areas of Canada in a helicopter, before hopping out and hiking back down through the breathtaking countryside to get back to where you are staying. This is one holiday where you will definitely want to take your camera!

As you can imagine, Canada puts you very close to some of nature's most spectacular animals too. Whale watching is a very popular activity on those days when you want something a little more laid back to do. But of course there are more energetic boat rides than this - you can board a jet boat to see the famous Niagara Falls from a very unique angle - if you're prepared to get a little bit wet.

The range of activities and sports that you can take part in is enough to keep you busy on any length of holiday. And when you need some downtime you can take full advantage of sitting back in a restaurant or bar, gazing at the scenery while you sample some of Canada's finest dishes. In short, it's one of the best places on earth you can be.
