By:Dipika Patel

Those keen to experience dramatic natural scenery should consider taking Canada rail holidays. Affording views of the famous Rockies, as well as stunning lakes, wildlife and visits to exciting cities, winter rail holidays in Canada can provide an excellent break.

A rail journey in Canada can take you onboard the Rocky Mountaineer following routes laid down 100 years ago and affording some of the most breathtaking views. You can also visit Toronto, Vancouver and numerous other destinations, meaning a rail break allows you to experience much more - and with greater ease - than other holidays.

Upon arrival in Toronto, you can explore some of this city's most iconic sights. The CN Tower is perhaps the most famous. Standing at 553 metres, this freestanding structure was the tallest building in the world for some 30 years.

And as the largest city in Canada, there is much to see here. A coach tour is available to take you around the city, showing you the main sights and explaining their history and relevance. Visitors can also take a trip to the Royal Ontario Museum, which is home to numerous natural history and cultural artefacts.

Just 75 miles south-east of the city lies Niagara Falls - a simply essential natural attraction for any visitor to Canada to see. You can enjoy a meal overlooking the falls before venturing out to see it closer up. Those keen to view it from a different perspective can travel to the foot of the falls in the Maid in the Mist - a truly unforgettable experience.

Back in Toronto, holidaymakers can embark on their first rail journey. Boarding the The Canadian, you can travel through the Rockies towards Jasper, with a stop-off in Winnipeg. You will see incredible peaks, canyons and lakes during your trip - especially as you approach Jasper.

Upon arrival you will be able to explore Jasper National Park, home to a wealth of stunning natural beauty. Among lakes, mountains and waterfalls you will be able to spot exciting wildlife, such as elk, moose and deer. As the largest glacier-fed body of water in the region, Maligne Lake is another sight not to be missed.

From Jasper, a coach trip can take you along the Icefields Parkway, internationally renowned as one of the most beautiful mountain ranges in the world. During the 203-mile route, you will travel through some of the highest peaks of the Rockies, as well as numerous lakes.

Upon reaching the foot of the Columbia Icefields, you have the opportunity to ride a giant snowmobile on the Athabasca Glacier - an exhilarating journey as exciting for the ride as it is for the views.

Once you have finished, you can journey to Banff, home of Sulphur Mountain. A trip up to the summit via cable car is well worth the journey - you will be rewarded with stunning panoramic views which are truly magical.

From there you can travel to nearby Lake Louise for a tranquil afternoon stroll - perfect for relaxing, taking photos and simply enjoying the scenery and fresh air.

From Banff you can embark on the Rocky Mountaineer - a train famous for following routes laid down 100 years ago and giving some of the best views of the Rockies. You can simply relax and watch the scenery go by while breakfast and lunch are served to you in your seat.

Passing through Banff National Park and the Continental Divide as well as the Thompson and Fraser Canyons, you will not be able to take your eyes off the scenery.

Upon arriving in Vancouver, you will be able to explore the city yourself as well as head off on guided tours that will give you more information on the area and its attractions. You will be able to visit Gastown, China Town and Stanley Park, as well as famous architectural feats such as the Capilano Suspension Bridge.

To finish off your journey, why not take a ferry cruise through the Gulf Islands to Victoria on Vancouver Island? Home to the world's largest population of killer whales, it is certain to be an exciting trip.
