With casinos, outdoor activities, snow sport locations and dozens of festivals, Reno is a popular destination spot in northern Nevada.

Getting to Reno
Reno is an 8-hour drive from Las Vegas and Los Angeles. It's a 3 1/2-hour drive from San Francisco. It is also accessible by airplane via the Reno-Tahoe International Airport, which is serviced by most major domestic carriers.

Where to stay
Those seeking lodging in Reno have an array of options, from casinos to resorts, bed and breakfasts, luxury hotels, economy motels and RV parks. For example, The Atlantis Casino Resort Spa features 1,000 guest rooms, along with a casino and spa. The 60,000-square foot Harrah's has a 24-hour casino and seven restaurants.

What to do
Golf lovers, gamblers, fishermen, bikers and skiers alike will find plenty in Reno to keep them busy. The region boasts 43 public golf courses and 7 private courses. Feel like going for a bike ride? Take a spin on the area's more than 968 miles of trails. Fisherman will enjoy the 250 holes or a day of fly fishing in the Truckee River. World-renowned skiing is also an option thanks to the 18 ski resorts in the area.

Where to eat
With more than 1,200 restaurants, the hungry traveler can always find a place to grab a satisfying bite. The city serves up anything you could desire, from savory steaks, to ethnic cuisine or filling buffets. In the mood for a burger and a beer? Try Beck's Brew House. Dig into a steak at the world famous Charlie Palmer steakhouse at the Grand Sierra Resort. Visitors who really want to fill up can try Toucan Charlie's Buffet and Grille at the Atlantis Casino.

Museums
Reno has 31 museums, including the Nevada Museum of Art, which is the state's only accredited fine arts museum. Other museums include The National Automobile Museum and the Nevada State Railroad Museum.

Special events
In Reno, there's a special event 175 days out the year. If you like hot air balloons, check out the Great Reno Balloon Race, typically held in September. Writers and poets won't want to miss the Shakespeare Festival in nearby Lake Tahoe. Cowboys out there will relish the Reno Rodeo, a 10-day event typically held in June.
