How to Plan a Trip to Reno, Nevada
By:Collaborator

The self-described "Biggest Little City in the World," Reno is Nevada's second largest community and a major tourist draw in its own right. Perched on the eastern slope of the Sierra Nevada mountains just a few miles east of the California border and Lake Tahoe, Reno retains some of the ambience of a rustic Western town while offering top notch gaming, big name entertainment and luxury accommodations combined with year-round outdoor recreational opportunities.

Find Luxury Accommodations in Reno, Nevada

Call the Reno-Sparks Convention and Visitors Authority at (800) FOR-RENO to book luxury accommodations in the area or visit their website to book online (see Resources below).

Stay at the Grand Sierra Resort and Casino. Book via their Web site (see Resources below) or by calling (800) 501-2651.

Consider one of the many bed and breakfast inns situated in the outlying areas of Reno. Most of these facilities are located in mansions constructed over a hundred years ago and offer peace, comfort and luxury as well as convenient proximity to the gaming sites.

Think about booking accommodations in nearby South Lake Tahoe. A quick 45-minute drive from Reno, South Lake Tahoe offers a mix of top flight casinos and hotels year round, with ski resorts in next door Heavenly Valley during the winter and waterfront resorts during the summer months.

Explore the prospect of short-term condo or vacation home rental in the Reno/Tahoe area. The area offers an abundance of such lodging possibilities and local real estate agents can steer the visitor to the desired luxury accommodations.

Look to the major brand-name hotels along North Virginia Ave./US 395 for luxury accommodations, top notch entertainment and round-the-clock glitz.

Check the adjoining community of Sparks, on the east side of Reno, for a cluster of four- and five-star hotels and casinos.

Arrange Travel to Reno, Nevada

Fly to Reno on one of the dozen national and regional carriers that service Reno-Tahoe International Airport, a few miles south of the city. Rental cars, taxis and shuttles are readily available for the short drive into town.

Drive to Reno via Interstate 80, the major east/west freeway which connects the Reno/Tahoe area with heavily populated Northern California. Find Reno on State Highway 95 if approaching from the north or south.

Think about taking the train to Reno. Amtrak's California Zephyr services the city daily from the east or west.

Check local weather conditions if you're traveling during the winter months. Snow and ice can cause delays at Reno's airport and on Interstate 80 through the Sierra Nevadas, the main route to Reno from Northern California.
