Display and Use of the US Flag
By:Kiya Sama

There is a lengthy code of etiquette for display and use of the U.S. flag. The rules given below pertain to home use:

The flag can be flown on all days, but especially on national and state holidays.
The flag is generally displayed from sunrise to sunset. However, it can be flown at night if properly illuminated.
The flag can be flown in inclement weather if it is an all-weather flag.
The flag should never touch the ground or floor or anything that is beneath it.
When flown with other flags, no other flag should fly above the U.S flag. When a number of flags are displayed, the U.S flag should be at the center and at the highest point in the group.
The flag should not be defaced in any manner. In addition, it should not be used to cover a ceiling, should not be used as a receptacle for holding or carrying anything, should not be used as wearing apparel.
The flag should not be drawn back, or up, or in folds, but should always be allowed to fall free.
It's all right to wash or dry-clean a soiled flag.
When a flag is no longer fit for display, it should be destroyed in a dignified manner, preferably by burning.
When hanging a flag horizontally or vertically, the blue filed (called the union) should be uppermost and to the observer's left. When hanging a flag from the staff, the union should be at the peak of the staff.
