Romantic City Guide: San Jose and Silicon Valley
By:Ron Zvagelsky

Part 1: Spots to visit while in San Jose

San Jose is on of the largest cities in California and is located in the heart of the Silicon Valley (hence, the city is appropriately nicknamed the Capital of Silicon Valley.) There are a lot of museums in the city itself so if you enjoy visiting museums, San Jose is a great place to visit. The San Jose Museum of Art features an extensive collection of pieces from throughout history, while the Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum of Art has one of the largest collections of ancient Egyptian artifacts in the United States. The Tech Museum is also located in Silicon Valley and features many exhibits about the latest technology and the history of the Silicon Valley region in regards to technology. Even for those who arent into visiting museums, there is a lot of culture in the area, and spots such as Japantown are always great places to visit for a change from the norm. Japantown has numerous restaurants and small shops, and is home to many special events and festivals annually. The area is mainly targeted towards the Japanese culture, but you can find a little bit of everything.

Once you travel outside of the city of San Jose itself, most tourists tend to make their way towards the beach and coastline. The area is home to many small beach towns where you can easily book a hotel, or even rent a beach home for a few days to just relax. Visiting these areas is a great way to get away from the stress involved in day to day life and is a very romantic spot for couples to enjoy each others company. The weather is always perfect for the beaches and most beaches in the area feature clear blue skies and golden yellow sand.

Part 2: Dining

The San Jose area is also home to many romantic restaurants. Some of the more popular and well liked restaurants in the area include Bella Mia, Emilles, and Blakes Steakhouse and bar. As you may have guessed, Bella Mias is one of the top restaurants to go for fine Italian cuisine. It is a relatively new restaurant and was built in a classic brick building that dates back to the early 1900s to give it a historical charm. The restaurant was voted the Best New Restaurant in Downtown San Jose, and not only features excellent award winning food, but also soothing music from live performers. The restaurant also has private rooms as well as a new program, Jazz Brunch, which offers lively jazz music during the late morning and early afternoons on certain days.

Emilles is a fine restaurant for contemporary European food from France, Italy, Switzerland, and various other countries. The chef and founder of the restaurant, Emile Mooser, came to America from Switzerland and is internationally known for his cooking. His restaurant has won various awards including Wine Spectators Award of Excellence, the Best of the Best Award from Cond Nast magazine, and off course, the much coveted Distinguished Restaurants of North America Award.

Finally, Blakes Steakhouse and Bar is a great restaurant to visit for a fun night out. It is more casual than some of the other romantic restaurants in the area, but is home to some of the best steak in all of California and all those who like steak, often make an attempt to visit Blakes when they are in the area. The restaurant features over 13 types of steak so you can be sure to find what you are looking for.

The Silicon Valley and the San Jose region is one of the greatest places for couples to visit while in California. It is a great city to relax and get away from the stresses and pressures of day to day life and is a wonderful getaway for everyone. The city is also home to some of the finest restaurants and hotels in the United States, so if you have the means, you can stay in the lap of luxury during your visit. Regardless, there is plenty for couples from all walks of life to enjoy in the Silicon Valley.
