How to Make a Modern CV, Resume
By:Silas Reed

The requirements of the corporate sector have changed and so has the art of designing a rsum. This goes without saying that the conventional style of designing a rsum does not work always. Multiple styles of resumes have sprouted all over the place in the last few years and they have takers too.

Resume designing is a specialized service and career consultants and resume writers now make a living out designing a resume. However, the question comes to the mind that with so many styles of resumes going around, which is the best style? There are multiple schools of thought on this and naturally all of them differ.

Nevertheless, some standard principles of resume designing will always be valued, irrespective of the times. Let us take a look at the various principles of resume designing.

Add a career summary: A statement like "Software programmer specialized in C and C++ with 8 years of experience" in the beginning of a resume adds a lot of value. This sets right away the kind of experience you have and the potential employer what to expect from the resume. Always include a career summary.

Give a summary of achievements: Employers would like to see what kind of tangible contributions you made with your former employer and how they have benefited from your contributions. Try and include figures. Something like "because of the new code, software installation became faster by 40%" does a world of good.

Align skills with requirements: Employers would like to see how your skills are going to benefit them. Hence, always make a list of your skills and the requirements of the position and design your resume in a manner so that your skills seem most suitable for the position you have applied for.

Align academic qualifications with experience: Show in the resume that whatever you have learnt during your academic years has been put to suitable use during your professional career. If you were good at Accountancy and scored high grades, design the resume in a manner that shows that you have used that acumen and skills to good effect in your job too.

Add an objective: Show the potential employer that you are serious about something and are focused. Also, the resume should be so designed so that it supports the objective subsequently. If your stated objective is to become a subject matter expert in Database, your subsequent performance in professional field should justify that you have been really focused.

Resume is a tool that should earn you an interview first and foremost. So design it, keeping the basic principles in mind very carefully. If you know how to write a resume, your resume will fetch more interviews.
