Resume and Interview Tips

Resume tips for teachers
By:Ted

My resume is a single page (makes it harder for them to lose bits, and quicker for them to review me) which has name, address, phone number, email address at the top, then headings for:

Objective - 1 sentence (eg "I am seeking a position as a full time teacher for x subject or x grade utilising my skills in x").
Philosophy of Education - 1 paragraph
Teaching Responsibilities - 1 paragraph (summary of standard teaching duties I have demonstrated)
Areas of Expertise - 1 paragraph for each of my strengths (I had music, art, and IT and elaborated to say how I had demonstrated those strengths)
Work History (I listed any employment relevant to the position I was applying for - teaching and IT in my case)
Education and Certifications (My degree, accreditation, in-service training, first aid etc.)
References - name, position, phone number (make sure you have their permission to list them, I used my principal, my supervisor, and a colleague I did extra-curricular work with).

I use a second page to address any specific position criteria (this is a formatting requirement of the state I teach in), kind of like a cover page I guess.

Experience - this format just got me and a colleague permanent teaching positions a few months ago :)
