Resume and Interview Tips

How to Shun Interview Blunders
By:Michael Sanjaya

Perhaps, the jitteriest part in job hunting is the interview. You may have written an impressive application letter and resume', but it does not necessarily follow that you have already stirred the employer's decision to hire you. The intelligence you have presented in making the written requirements must be accompanied by a highly intellectual behavior and looks.

A job interview may last for thirty minutes or it may take several hours; it may be conducted by one person or several, either at one time or in a series of interviews. Whatever it may be, the main thing to remember about going to a job interview is that the interviewer does not know you.

Now here are some common interview gaffes that really do happen. Avoid them if you want to put your best face forward.

"I did not hear my alarm!" Being late implies that you do not care very much for the position you are being interviewed for. Being late for a job interview provides the impression that you will not be on time for work as well. So be sure to arrive for an interview at least thirty minutes before schedule.

"Sorry, I did not have time to Google you yet." Having no idea at all on what you are trodding through does not only make you sound unprepared but it will make you look like not interested as well. You should try to learn about the company's background. This kind of information can be obtained from current employees, company publications, or from issues of the local newspapers.

"Sorry, I'm just nervous." It is natural to be nervous but be careful to remain alert. Sit up straight. Good posture suggests self-assurance. Try to appear relaxed and confident in front of the interviewer. Listen carefully and make an effort to remember especially important information. Avoid unnecessary movements or mannerisms.

"I do not really have any weaknesses." Nobody is perfect. Even CEOs have their own weaknesses. Be honest and reflect on what issues you have. You may have to tell them your weaknesses too but be sure to assure them that you can be better to avoid complications later in your work.

Rambling on and on. When answering questions, do not ramble or stray from the subject. This may suggest that you are not good in listening. Too much information can usually become irrelevant to what is being asked.

Do not blow of getting your dream job. Do your research and practice speaking with self-assurance.
