Resume and Interview Tips

Resume Writing
By:Neil W

Resume writing is a skill that is much needed in today's world, especially if you are looking for a new job. It is true that your resume can make or break your career. It is the first impression that it gives to the potential employer and reflects your personality.

A first look at the resume can make the employer interested in you and impress them with the skills that you have. It will hopefully lead to job opportunities but it can also do the opposite - a poorly written out resume can be a complete turn off to an employer and put your career at stake!

Your resume should provide an overview of the experience that you have and if you are a mid-career professional looking for a career change or if you are a fresher just out from college and are looking for a job, resume writing is important in both these cases.

There are many different formats for writing the resume - like the functional or the chronological formats, but whatever you prefer, your resume should highlight your positive traits and deal with any flaws. A good resume is one that you can tweak according to the needs of the job you are applying for.

Good resume writing involves a clear objective statement and this statement should be in tune with the job you are applying for. Opening the resume with a proper objective makes it powerful. This also clearly highlights your motivation and can open doors for an interview, which is definitely what you are aiming for.

A good resume has the capability to put the employer in the hiring frame of mind and thus improve your chance of getting the job. So it is very important that before you start your resume writing you should plan and outline it and then follow your plan.

It is very important to highlight the accomplishments that you have achieved and how these are related to the job you are applying for, or how these will be an advantage for the company once they hire you. Also, it is of utmost importance whilst resume writing to check that you have correct punctuation and grammar, as even minor grammatical errors can put the prospective employer off. A well written out resume should be properly organized and you should use recognized headings such as professional experience, education or training within your resume.

In summary, your resume should demonstrate the skills that match the job you are applying for and should be personalized to highlight your strengths, rather than being a generic resume. Using these tips will help you to write a good resume.
