Resume and Interview Tips

5 Proven Ways to Significantly Improve Your Resume in 10 Minutes
By:Raymond James

When you use these quick and easy tips you will assured of a better resume in less than 10 minutes.

* Make use of powerful language that is action based to describe your particular skills and accomplishments.

Sift through your resume from beginning to end and weed out all the "weak" language. It simply isn't good enough to write, "Was in charge of a large graphic design department that increased revenue for the company." It is much more powerful to declare "Responsible for the management of 12 graphic artists engaged in major creative projects that increased revenues by over 3 million in the last year."

Get rid of all forms of the verb "to be" such as is, are, was, am etc and replace these with action words that deliver a strong impact.

* Include bullet points.

This is a fantastic way to make the resume more accessible to the reader. All the necessary information is readily at hand without the necessity to trawl through tedious paragraphs. This is especially the case when listing accomplishments.

* Include a specific, concise job description.

Be precise about the job you are looking for. It is important that you make the effort to help the company with your dream job find you. If you were the recruiter, you would be much happier choosing someone who is a precise match rather than taking a guess and hoping the candidate is the right one for the job.

* Avoid the temptation of listing every single job you've done.

Provided you are not leaving a large gap in your work history, it often makes sense to pick and choose the inclusion in your resume of your previous positions, especially when the position has no relevance to this application. If you are not certain about how best to do this, it may be wise to seek the assistance of a professional resume writer.

* Do a thorough spell check.

Once you feel that you have adequately polished your resume, do a final spell check. Be aware though that most spell check programs will not find all mistakes, so it is best to complete a manual proof read of the resume as well.

You will be amazed how much you will have improved your resume, just by following these 5 tips.
