Writing a Resume For High School
By:Brian G Chadra

Writing a resume for high school is a good stepping stone to the business world. This practice can also help to alleviate the fears that come with venturing into the unknown. Leaving the safe cocoon of high school for the uncertainty of college or worse the job market can be nerve racking for teenagers despite their bravado. Let's look at what should be contained in the high school resume.

Looking at the five basic sections contained in a typical resume -- header, job objective, education, experience and miscellaneous, each one needs to contain something of relevance for the reader. This doesn't have to be earth shattering but does need to be correct. In the header, list name, address, phone numbers and professional email address (your first initial and last name are fine here). The job objective should include a one to two sentence statement that list exactly what you are looking for with the resume. It can be shortened to objective when applying for college.

For education, indicate field of study and important or favorite courses taken. State the high school attended, the dates and projected graduation month and year. Under experience, list any part time jobs held. Be sure to include volunteer work or community service duty. Finally, the miscellaneous portion should be personalized to indicate a favorite hobby or pastime to show a well rounded individual. It can be a great introduction area as well since many people share the same hobbies. Be sure to proof read this carefully and have two friends do the same. Now print it on good quality paper and submit to that college or job opportunity of choice. Good luck!

Until next time,

Brian
