Writing a Cover Letter - Your Complete Guide

A Cover letter is a must have when submitting your resume. It does not only become an avenue for briefly showcasing your qualifications, it also shows your sincere intention to be a part of the organization. Writing a cover letter is not as simple as it sounds.

It takes a focus and the use of appropriate words to make is brief but interesting. There are different ways of getting this done. In order to crate the most appropriate letter for you, you must follow the basic guides and include the basic "must-haves".

Here is a simple guide that will help you construct exactly what you need. Writing a cover letter must focus on four basic factors:

Purpose of the Cover letter - the main purpose in writing is to get to the next phase of the application process. However, your letter's main purpose is to get attention and be noticed by your prospective employer.

Audience - Every letter must be personalized. It should not be generic and must be intended solely to the recipient. This means that your letter must include facts about your prospective employer and the position that you are applying for. This will show how sincere and interested you are in the position you are applying for.

Content of the letter - The content of the letter must include the things you want the reader to know about you. This should include the position you are applying for, your qualifications that suit the post and your intention for applying. Including your accomplishments and skills will be a plus in writing your cover letter.

Format of the letter - This letter should be written in a paragraph format with a formal but conversational tone. The first few paragraphs must include the position you are applying for and how you got to know the opening. It should also include your qualifications that match with that of the job you are applying for.

The body of the letter must be a more detailed but brief information about your accomplishments and experiences that are relevant to the position. Use this as an introduction that will entice the reader to look at your resume. Lastly, the concluding paragraph must include information on how you can be reached for an interview. Thank the reader for taking time to read your letter and reviewing your resume.

Writing a cover letter is not a joke. It will decide whether or not you will advance to the next level of the application process. It is important that you take your time in writing it.
